First Steps Training Center for Children with Autism of McAllen, Texas is dedicated to helping children diagnosed with autism achieve developmental goals that allow them to: have more success in school, live cohesively with family and others, & become more independent.
We are not a therapy or counseling organization, but a training center.
Our program was developed by Founder/Director Leticia Trejo through her personal experience as a parent of an autistic child, as well as formal study with the leading authorities on autism in the United States. We have helped over 285 children and their families to a better life in the past decade.
If you are the parent of an autistic child and are in search of solutions, we invite you to contact us to set up a consultation. In the end, we believe autistic children can become more successful than ever before; let’s begin.
I am a board-certified pediatrician with special knowledge about autism, both from extensive reading and study of the disorder and its treatment and from being the mother of an autistic child. Ms. Trejo is a very knowledgeable and experienced teacher of autistic children. She is able to win their attention and trust, and from there she begins to the slow and difficult process of teaching the child to communicate, even though he has not been able to learn this skill in the casual way that most normal children do.
I met (Ms. Trejo) through Dr. J— —–a… he has an autistic child and recommended (Ms. Trejo) to me as a private tutor for my autistic son… His progress with her has been astounding. He went from being a tantrum prone essentially nonverbal person to a well spoken, toilet trained, well behaved child who can read, write, and do second grade mathematics. He is only six years old. … She is immensely practical, reliable and professional. I think a person of her caliber would normally be only found in New York or Los Angeles.
We have been blessed that our child has a tutor of her caliber. We will recommend her without any hesitation and we wish her the best in her future endeavors.
For the past six months Ms. Trejo has been tutoring my 2 1/2 year old son… both my wife and I are truly amazed of the way she capture’s our son’s attention, teaches the task at hand, then builds on that accomplishment with the next lesson.
